In personal injury lawsuits, negligence essentially just means carelessness. It means not being careful. Negligence can be driving too fast. It can be leaving a spill on the floor of your restaurant or your grocery store that people fall in. It can mean having your premises not up to code. It can be not having a handrail on stairs where they're required. Negligence, it's just not being careful. It's not treating other people with the care that's due to them.
